Truth or Fiction: Are The New 21st Century Job Search Rules Really Extra Fast?

First of all, let’s talk about what the 21st Century job search rules are all about. An straightforward way to understand them is to compare them with the old-fashioned standard approach. That’s where you write a resume, mail or email it to a bunch of employers and agencies. Or post it on job sites like Monster and HotJobs. And then you wait for the phone to ring.


If it does, you may well get invited in for an interview . . . usually with an HR associate or a low-level management assistant. If it doesn’t, you send out far more resumes.


Now, honestly, you may wind up with a job utilizing this old-fashioned, standard approach . . . if you’re willing to wait out weeks or months of frustration, nail-biting, and downright discouragement. And the job will almost certainly be one you had to settle for, rather than choose.

Jobs that promote emotional well-being

We all have different views on jobs.  Some of us see them as a way to pay the bills, whilst some of us see them as the reason for living.  The old adage comes to mind – “Do you live to work or work to live?”  Whichever way you look at it, our jobs all have a component to play in our lives.   And it’s not just about seeing the glass as half empty or half full – it genuinely is about understanding that all work is important and that our jobs are useful in the economy. 

In today’s tough economic times though, people are far much more willing to take their jobs seriously, due to the fact the reality is that they’re not positive where or when they will locate their next job.  Individuals will need job security and usually start to look at their jobs in a different light.  Some individuals decline opportunities to change jobs since they’re more ‘secure’ staying in the job they’re in.
