Most people wouldn’t think of scuba diving without instructions or buying a house without speaking to a realtor that knows what their doing. Yet most people are willing to risk their job search activities to themselves. Well wake up! Performing a job search in today’s market with no coaching or instructions is like trying to find something in the dark, occasionally it happens if you’re lucky. Without the guidance of a industry professional that knows the tools and techniques to compete in today volatile job market its simply relying on luck. It’s a difficult process to begin with, the job seeker today works harder to find and land a job than actually working. It can be a lonely, discouraging and frustrating process with many land mines to trip up the inexperienced just to find a job. 

My 26 years in the staffing industry has provided me with the both the past and current method of effective job searching. I’ve been studying, training, counseling, teaching, and writing about job search and the staffing industry for most my adult life. I’ve seen first-hand the tragedy that can occur to individuals and families that accompany an extended period of unemployment. The emotional and financial stress is devastating.

New job search methods, techniques and internet sites have changed the way people now need to employ. Job search failure can normally be attributed to the following reasons.

In the past most of us didn’t need to job hunt often enough to be good at it or even know the current tools and methods being used.
Most of us think job hunting a rather simple task because so many people do it. They think it’s like going to buy a car, but its much more complicated, more like finding a spouse.
The Internet has changed how job hunting works in the last few years new methods, techniques and internet sites have dramatically changed the way people search for jobs.
Most people don’t utilize the 11 different avenues available to them in performing a job search.
Most people don’t understand that a successful job search requires planning of actions, a dynamite resume, how to prepare for interviews and how to follow up.
They don’t know the latest networking approaches such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Face Book.

Bottom Line

Finding a job is NOT easy for the vast majority of people.  Don’t waste time by thinking that you know it all you can guidance and inexpensive help if you need to, and you should.
